Frequently asked questions
Is Jol Cam free?
Yes. The Free Jol is on us: one QR, 125 shots, 10 per phone, and one private host album. Anyone with the QR can join. Jol Cam is still in beta, and bigger events can contact us while we test larger packs.
Are the photos private?
Ja. Photos are added to a private event album for the host. They are not public or searchable. The host can download the album and may choose to share a protected album link with guests. Guest upload links and shared album links are protected by unique links.
Do guests need to download an app?
Nope. They scan the QR, the camera opens in their browser. Zero downloads, zero drama.
How long do the photos stick around?
Free jols are hosted for 7 days after the event and can be scheduled up to 30 days ahead. You can download the album as soon as photos start coming in. Need longer hosting for a bigger event? Message us on Instagram.
Can I add more shots later?
Ja, you can top up shots anytime from your event dashboard.
Is it actually disposable-camera quality?
We add the grain, flash and dated look — but the original sharp file is saved too.
What happens after hosting ends?
The album goes read-only. Download the album before then. Jol Cam is still in beta, so some cleanup rules may still change.
Can guests see each other's photos?
Only if you, the host, switch on the public album. Default is host-only.
Do guests need internet?
Yes. Guests need Wi-Fi or mobile data to open the Jol and save photos. If the connection drops after taking a photo, keep the page open and try saving again when the signal returns.
Is it safe? Where are the photos stored?
Photos are kept in a private host album with access controls and encryption in transit. Some service providers may process data outside South Africa. Only the host can delete their album. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
